LTE
Continuous Computing has a deep understanding of Long Term Evolution (LTE) and the key necessity for network equipment providers to deliver Evolved Packet Core (EPC) applications quickly and cost-effectively.
LTE is strategic for Continuous Computing; we have 15 LTE customer wins.
We invested early (and heavily) in Trillium software and ATCA DPI / packet processing to deliver application-ready FlexTCA platforms that support a full range of LTE EPC applications.
What’s more, the thought leaders within our engineering and product line management teams have written extensively about the specific requirements of the all-IP LTE core:
- SCTP FastPath Optimization for 3G/LTE Networks
- Interoperability in LTE
- Signaling Procedures in LTE
- LTE E-UTRAN and its Access Side Protocols
- ATCA Blade Solutions Provide Seamless Migration to LTE
- Implementing ATCA Serving Gateways for LTE Networks
- Unlocking LTE: A Protocol Perspective
- LTE – Top 12 Challenges
LTE EPC Diagrams
These diagrams illustrate how Trillium protocols, system software and ATCA hardware may be combined to create application-ready LTE EPC systems:
To illustrate our system-level approach to addressing LTE EPC key requirements, let’s drill down into two network elements.
MME: Mobility Management Entity
The MME application can include support key for control plane interfaces to the HSS, SGSN, SGW, eNodeB and other System Architecture Evolution (SAE) network nodes.
MME application modules can support monitoring of idle UE, authentication with HSS, SGW selection, and bearer activation/de-activation.
NAS terminates at the MME and supports assignment and allocation of temporary UE identities.
The MME can support the following interfaces: S1-MME, S3, S6a, S10 and S11. Please see the Trillium LTE protocol software page for more information.
SGW: Serving Gateway
The SGW application can support user data and provides routing and forwarding functionality between the eNodeB and PDN (Packet Data Network).
It also acts as mobility anchor during handovers and between 3G and LTE networks.
The SGW application monitors and maintains context information related to the UE and generates paging requests when data for the UE arrives from the network.
The SGW application can support S1-U, S2a, S4, S5, S8, S11, S12 and Gxc interfaces; eGTP for LTE and GTP-c/u for 3G can be supported where applicable. Please see the Trillium LTE protocol software page for more information.
