FlexPacket Data Plane Software
- Fixed Mobile Convergence & LTE
- Security, DPI & Content-Aware Networks
The new FlexTCA System from Continuous Computing provides an integrated solution to meet new service and capacity requirements for applications such as fixed-mobile convergence, Long-Term Evolution (LTE), and content-aware network devices supporting traffic shaping, security and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI). The FlexTCA system is unique in providing full integration between protocol stacks, Service Availability Forum (SAF)-compliant High Availability (HA) middleware, platform management, and a range of AdvancedTCA blades and chassis options. Specifically the FlexTCA system and associated FlexPacket ATCA-PP50 blade is supported by a comprehensive range of networking and routing protocols to meet the needs of next generation network elements.
The FlexPacket Data Plane protocol suite includes Trillium protocol stacks such as GTP, SIP, SCTP and Diameter as well as 6WIND routing and fast path functions. The 6WIND software combines networking control protocols for routing, connectivity, security, and mobility with optimized fast path functions to maximize system performance and efficiency. The FlexPacket ATCA-PP50 is also supported by a range of application software from our ISV partners including DPI application software called Qoala from Qosmos. We also have partners who can supply security software including detection and prevention of intrusion as well as denial of service attacks
Fast path functions are ported to the PP50's XLR packet processors and use RMI OS- and hardware-specific accelerators to deliver maximum performance for functions such IP forwarding, IP in IP, IPsec, VR (Virtual Router), etc. The software is optimized to deliver maximum performance for all packet sizes, with specific optimization for small packet sizes. Specifically, the IPsec fast path is optimized to make use of the XLRs' autonomous security engines and the packet distribution unit. Unlike alternative packet processors, this approach enables >10Gbps of IPsec to be supported using only a small number of the MIPS cores, leaving the remaining MIPS cores to perform other useful tasks.
