Operators from both fixed and wireless markets are striving to create a streamlined IP-centric network capable of delivering multiple services such as voice, data / email, web access, presence, and mobile TV / IPTV. Legacy overlay networks are limited in that they deliver specific services and are optimized for specific traffic characteristics and security requirements, which complicates network management and seamless service integration.
To support multiple services on a single IP network at an equivalent level of quality, the network must become "content-aware". This is achieved using deep packet inspection (DPI) technology, which can analyze each packet as it transits the network to determine the application type being carried. By being content-aware, the network is able to manage the traffic based on its specific needs, enforce service level agreements, and support billing and security as required on a per-session basis.
By applying AdvancedTCA technology to a low-profile, low-cost 2U or 3U enclosure, telecom equipment manufacturers are able to use the same bladed technology that is applied in larger systems - significantly reducing development cost and time while simplifying inventory management.
