Trillium | COPS
Description
The Common Open Policy Service (COPS) protocol is a query and response protocol that is used to exchange policy information between a policy server or Policy Decision Point (PDP) and its clients or Policy Enforcement Points (PEPs). This functionality helps to ensure adequate Quality of Service (QoS), and is a critical protocol within the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture.
The PEP allocates or releases resources within a network node based on policy decision provided by the PDP. The entire process of policy definition, provisioning, and enforcement is facilitated via the COPS protocol. The PEPs send requests, updates, and deletes via COPS to the PDP, which in turn makes the final decision on how to employ the network's resources.
Trillium COPS protocol software provides the following basic capabilities:
- COPS-PR functionality as defined in RFC3084
- Policy-based per-session authorization and admission control
- Support for the Go interface which allows service-based local policy information to be "pushed" to or requested by the Policy Enforcement Point (PEP) in the Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) from a Policy Decision Function (PDF) in the IMS architecture.
Trillium COPS protocol software is a standards-based implementation of the COPS protocol.
Trillium COPS software enables telecom equipment manufacturers of the Proxy-Call State Control Function (P-CSCF), GGSN, or other products to:
- Accelerate time to market
- Reduce development costs
- Reduce project risk of internally developed COPS applications
Product deliverables consist of C source software, documentation, training, a warranty and technical support.
