Continuous Computing Delivers Trillium "NGN-Ready" SIP Upgrades

Trillium SIP 2007 Roadmap Overview

Continuous Computing's Trillium SIP roadmap in 2007 focuses on three core areas:

  1. Carrier-grade Stack Enhancements
This includes extensive testing, comprehensive specification compliance, and the addition of Fault-Tolerant / High Availability (FT/HA) support.
  2. Performance Optimization
This includes protocol software enhancements that optimize performance in multi-core / multi-threaded processing environments.
  3. Software Usability
This includes implementation of the Trillium SDK components.

In the case of Trillium SIP, we have successfully covered focus areas one (i.e., carrier-grade enhancements) and two (i.e., performance optimization) and are progressing aggressively on the third, the Trillium SDK. The following sections provide details on each project.

Trillium SIP 2.2 Release | GA December 2006

The much-anticipated version 2.2 release of Trillium SIP was made Generally Available (GA) on December 28, 2006. The release greatly enhanced Trillium SIP's IMS and NGN specification compliance, added support for a full Call and Transaction Stateful Proxy, and featured the initial release of the Trillium XML Test Architecture (XTA). The Trillium XTA provides a fully automated and extensible acceptance and regression test environment. It also provides sample configuration files for integrated SIP over TCP/UDP and SIP over SCTP stacks, and automates the configuration of these integrated stacks for rapid setup and acceptance test execution. Specifically, the Trillium SIP 2.2 release provides the following upgrades:

  • Full Call and Transaction Stateful Proxy Servers
  • Support for key NGN/IMS requirements

    • All standardized extensions required by 3GPP IMS specifications
    • Support for NGN security, quality of service, and transport requirements
  • Robust implementation

    • Tested against a suite of 7,000 test cases
    • Includes Protos Denial of Service (DoS), 3rd Party Test Box, Torture Testing, ETSI Compliance Testing, and the release of Trillium XTA
  • Trillium XTA release

    • XML-based testing environment
    • Extensible, easy to use, and automated acceptance and regression testing environment
    • Features automated sample configurations for integrated SIP stacks for rapid stack setup and acceptance test execution

Trillium SIP FT/HA | GA June 2007

Trillium SIP FT/HA, released June 2007, provides support for a SIP active-standby configuration. This release leverages the patented Trillium DFT/HA architecture to ensure the FT/HA extensions to SIP are deployment proven and provide true carrier-grade high availability. The protocol-level fault-tolerance ensures that active calls are maintained in the case of a failure, providing a key part of a five nines available platform solution. Specifically, the Trillium FT/HA release provides the following upgrades:

  • Deployment-proven, carrier-grade high availability based on Continuous Computing's patented Trillium DFT/HA architecture.
  • Supports active-standby redundancy by maintaining call connectivity despite failure in the active SIP server.
  • Maintains active call state and supports both forced and unexpected fail-over scenarios

Trillium SIP Performance Optimizations | GA July 2007

Trillium SIP Performance Optimizations, released July 2007, furthers Trillium's performance leadership in the SIP market. The performance optimizations multi-thread the entire Trillium SIP stack with minimized locking. This provides industry-leading performance in single-core / multi-processor, multi-core / multi-processor, and multi-core / hardware threaded / multi-processor computing environments. In other words, however many processing entities are available, Trillium SIP takes advantage of each one equally, providing unparalleled scalability. The Multi-Threading (MT) configuration is a patch release and is accompanied by a detailed performance report outlining the results in multiple real-world performance testing scenarios featuring Continuous Computing's Trillium SIP and FlexCompute ATCA-XE30.

Trillium SIP Software Development Kit (SDK)

The final step in the 2007 Trillium SIP roadmap is the development of the Trillium SIP SDK. The SDK is being developed in two primary phases. The phases represent a spiral development approach with each release a fully-tested subset of the end functionality. We are targeting a release of the first phase by the end of 2007 and the second phase in the first quarter of 2008.
