Targeting the scalable application needs of next generation telecommunications markets, Continuous Computing’s FlexChassis product family provides the ideal AdvancedTCA (ATCA) platform for telecom equipment manufacturers seeking scalable solutions for control plane, network edge, and data center environments. ATCA chassis options range from 3U to 12U and support both redundant and non-redundant operation to address the scalability and pricing needs of various market segments.

The small form factor offered in the 3U AC-powered chassis allows for low-cost, appliance-type solutions that enable multiple deployment options. Both the 5U and 12U DC-powered chassis are designed to ensure successful deployment of high-performance, carrier-grade wireless and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) applications where system availability must be maximized.

Engineered for reliability and longevity, Continuous Computing’s ATCA product family is built on industry standards to ensure easy integration, management, and compatibility. By coupling these ATCA chassis options with Continuous Computing’s complete family of ATCA blades, optimized Trillium control and data plane protocol software, and integrated professional services, a complete system is then ready for application deployment in order to provide the fastest path to revenue.


3U ATCA Chassis

  • 19" horizontal mount chassis with 2 front and rear slots
  • Dual redundant, 1500W AC Power Supply with dual power entry

5U ATCA Chassis

  • Six (6) slot ATCA backplane with 10GbE dual star fabric interface; dual star base interface for two (2) optional shelf managers with bussed IPMB; supports two (2) 8U hub slots and four (4) 8U node slots
  • Rear field replaceable power entry modules; dual -48V DC inputs
  • Two (2) front field replaceable fan trays arranged in a side to side configuration offer cooling up to 200W per board; each fan tray contains six (6) high speed fans controlled as a group by an IPM Controller
  • Front replaceable air inlet filter with presence sensor; meets GR-78-CORE
  • Mounting provisions for six (6) 8Ux280mm ATCA boards, six (6) 8Ux70mm Rear Transition Modules, and two (2) 4Ux6HP shelf managers

5U Backplane

  • Six (6) 10GbE dual star backplane with slots numbered from bottom to top (horizontal mounting in card cage)
  • Base Interface: wired as a dual star. Slots 1 and 2 are the Base Interface Hub slots. Base Interface Channel 1 (ShMC) of logical slot 1 and 2 is cross connected to both Shelf Manager slots on the ATCA Backplane
  • IPMB_A and IPMB_B connections are wired as a bus and routed to the ATCA slots, the fan trays, the PEMs, and the SAP
  • Update Channel: routes a full ten (10) pair channel from slot 1 to slot 2 and from slot 3 to slot 4
  • Synchronization clocks are bussed between all six (6) ATCA slots and terminated at both ends

12U ATCA Chassis

  • Vertical mount chassis with 14 front and rear slots
  • Dual star base, 10GbE dual star fabric and bussed IPMB
  • Dual shelf management modules and telco alarm board for centralized alarms
  • Dual -48VDC inputs
  • Designed for NEBS

12U Specifications

  • 20.97” H x 17.66” W (19” rack mount) x 18.53” D, 66 lbs
  • Dual star base interface and bussed IPMB interface
  • 14 slot ATCA backplane is designed to allow for replacement with minimal chassis disassembly
  • Provisions for 14 8U 6HP 280mm ATCA boards in chassis with 14 8U 70mm RTM boards in rear
  • Hub slots are located in physical slots 7 and 8; a slot zero is needed for provisioned dual Shelf Managers and one shelf alarm panel
  • Dedicated shelf alarm panel provides telco alarm interface, alarm status LEDs and serial interface for the Shelf Manager
  • Redundant -48VDC power inputs via hot swappable lower rear PEMs; each PEM has own IPM controller
  • Three (3) hot swap upper fan tray modules featuring four (4) 92mm fans per tray arranged in a serial-parallel fan architecture
  • Removable air filter located below the card cage including presence sensor
  • Architected for a low profile cable management system
