TeamF1’s Secure Gateway Solution combined with Continuous Computing’s Trillium Femtocell Access Point software simplifies deployment of femtocell devices

LAS VEGAS (CTIA WIRELESS 2009) AND SAN DIEGO – April 1, 2009 Continuous Computing, the only company deploying uniquely architected systems comprised of telecom platforms and Trillium software, today announced that it has partnered withTeamF1, a leader in high performance embedded networking and security software. TeamF1 will provide Continuous Computing with specialized device management and security software for Femtocell Access Point (FAP) applications and its Secure Gateway Solution offering for converged FAP and gateway devices. As part of this alliance, TeamF1 has joined Continuous Computing’sPartner Network, a collaborative program which leverages partnerships to provide customers with more comprehensive, integrated products, thereby improving time-to-market, cost savings, and performance for network equipment providers (NEPs).

As wireless operators around the globe begin the roll-out of femtocells to improve indoor coverage in homes and small businesses, there are costly obstacles associated with tying the FAP into the customer’s broadband connection to provide the backhaul for FAP traffic. The necessity for quick and seamless femtocell deployment has prompted the need for the convergence of FAPs with secure broadband gateway devices for easier installation, provisioning, and management for both the service provider and the end customer.

Trillium Femtocell Access Point software from Continuous Computing combined with TeamF1’s Secure Gateway Solution (SGS) allows NEPs to get to market faster with either a converged or standalone femtocell device that offers a comprehensive feature set. Standalone FAPs that are not combined with a broadband gateway can also benefit from the same advanced management, provisioning, and security features provided by TeamF1 integrated with the Trillium FAP software.

“Our leadership position in the development of Trillium femtocell software now provides the foundation for NEPs and service providers to migrate their customer premise access point offerings to the next level of innovation – convergence with a secure broadband gateway device to provide the backhaul for the FAP,” said Manish Singh, vice president of product line management at Continuous Computing. “Our partnership with TeamF1 will enable NEPs to meet mass demand for femtocell deployment more quickly and efficiently by eliminating the need to build up costly in-house engineering design teams.”

Continuous Computing’s Trillium Femtocell solutions extend from today’s 2G and 3G WCDMA-based Home NodeB’s to tomorrow’s Long Term Evolution (LTE)-derived Home eNodeB’s. Trillium Femtocell Access Point software meets the unique requirements of NEPs by including:

  • Standards-based protocols with support for 3GPP’s Home eNodeB for LTE and Home NodeB Iu-h architecture for WCDMA
  • Minimized memory footprint to support small femtocell form factor constraints
  • Reference implementations featuring a robust femtocell reference application
  • Integrated protocol stacks and integration with leading LTE and WCDMA femtocell silicon solutions, such as those provided by picoChip
  • Experienced professional services team, and more

TeamF1’s software includes a TR-069 management module and an Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) module, both of which follow the standards recommended by the Femto Forum. TeamF1’s SGS consists of pre-integrated VPN / firewall / router packages that provide advanced networking security, easy-to-use device management features, and multiple gateway options. In combination, the two partners present a comprehensive offering for the next generation of converged or standalone femtocell access points for the residential premise and small business environment.

“As market demand for femtocells continues to accelerate, NEPs and service providers will be seeking next-generation FAP strategies that enable them to make widescale deployment a reality,” said Mukesh Lulla, president and co-founder of TeamF1. “By combining our networking, security, and turnkey gateway expertise with Continuous Computing’s innovative wireless software, jointly we can offer a set of comprehensive, integrated solutions that span the entire range of devices from standalone secure, managed FAPs to advanced converged femto gateways with residential and small business features.”

TeamF1 is the 12th partner to join the Continuous Computing Partner Network. As it continues to expand, Continuous Computing’s partner program has established alliances with market-leading companies such as Cavium, Intel, picoChip, RMI, GoAhead, Wind River, and others to provide additional value and high-performance products to customers.
