Company Secures 11 LTE Design Wins; Technical Leadership and Systems Approach Laying the Groundwork for Further LTE Adoption in 2010
SAN DIEGO – November 4, 2009 – Continuous Computing, the only company deploying uniquely architected systems comprised of telecom platforms and Trillium software, is pleased to announce that demand for its LTE (Long Term Evolution) products has grown significantly in 2009. Since announcing general availability of Trillium LTE software in late 2008 and pre-integrated FlexTCA wireless systems optimized for Mobility Management Entity (MME) and Serving Gateway (SGW) applications in early 2009, Continuous Computing has secured 11 LTE design wins globally.
Overall demand for LTE software and hardware technology has grown substantially in 2009 as a growing number of carriers have announced support for the standard. Availability of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products, such as Trillium LTE and FlexTCA, has become even more imperative for operators looking to accelerate their LTE network deployments. Continuous Computing was the first systems vendor to announce a comprehensive standards-based LTE offering spanning both hardware and software across the entire range of LTE network infrastructure from the Radio Access Network (RAN) to the Evolved Packet Core (EPC).
2009 LTE Market Growth Highlights:
- GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association, confirms 42 LTE network operator commitments in 21 countries
- GSMA, the GSM Association, predicts that 14 LTE networks will be in service by the end of 2010, growing to more than 30 by the end of 2012
- According to Light Reading, LTE products have been tested, trialed and commercially announced by more than 75 vendors
Continuous Computing’s LTE Leadership:
- Secured 11 LTE design wins globally in both the RAN and EPC
- Teamed with picoChip to produce a comprehensive LTE femtocell hardware-software reference implementation designed to accelerate network equipment providers’ LTE product development timelines
- Collaborated with Cavium Networks to deliver performance-optimized wireless solutions for LTE networks
- Added a Snow3G accelerator to the company’s products for authentication and network security while complying with 3GPP’s LTE specifications for encryption
- Enhanced the Trillium LTE software suite – including Diameter, GTP, eGTP, LTE MAC, LTE PDCP, LTE RLC, LTE RRC, S1APand X2AP – to support the latest 3GPP March 2009 specifications known as 3GPP E-UTRA (LTE)
- Led two sessions at LTE World Summit 2009 focused on challenges and developments in the move toward LTE
“In 2009, there was undeniable momentum and we saw many of the world’s largest operators accelerate their commitment to LTE,” said Manish Singh, vice president of product line management for Continuous Computing. “We fully expect to be a significant participant in the first LTE trials in both the U.S. and Japan and are strongly invested in the future of LTE. Our customers are playing a critical role in helping carriers move forward, enabling them to get to market quickly and take full advantage of the opportunity and promise that LTE offers.”
LTE is considered by many to be the successor to the current generation of Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service (UMTS) 3G technology. LTE promises wireless subscribers unprecedented mobile broadband peak data rates of 100Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink, simultaneous voice and data sessions and low round-trip latency to support real-time applications like mobile TV and gaming. In comparison, today’s 3G networks can achieve peak data rates of 21Mbps downlink with enhanced High Speed Packet Access (HSPA+).
The complete suite of Trillium LTE protocols and professional services is available now. Continuous Computing’s LTE-optimized ATCA systems are also shipping today.
