New focus leverages partnerships, products, and services to offer network equipment providers unparalleled, specialized expertise in delivering carrier-class systems

SAN DIEGO – February 9, 2009 - Continuous Computing, the only company deploying uniquely architected systems comprised of telecom platforms and Trillium software, today launched a “Solutions & Services” business practice that leverages its growing portfolio of best-in-class products and technology partner relationships in the Wireless and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) arenas. The new practice will focus on delivering customized, fully-integrated, application-level solutions to Network Equipment Providers (NEPs), enabling them to take advantage of the growing market opportunities presented by the migration from 2.5G and 3G wireless networks to “4G” Long Term Evolution (LTE). Through standards-based system solutions from Continuous Computing, NEPs can continue to fulfill aggressive operator demand despite in-house budget reductions mandated by challenging economic conditions.

Consumer uptake of “smart phone” devices and the increasing adoption of mobile broadband via netbooks and laptop data cards are pushing the envelope of wireless bandwidth consumption. To meet this growing demand, wireless operators are looking ahead to LTE, which opens the door to many new technology challenges pertaining to the integration of DPI capabilities for wireless network security and traffic management.

At the same time, however, NEPs are finding it difficult to meet aggressive product delivery schedules due to their own spending reductions. Particularly with regard to DPI capabilities, many NEPs are realizing that there are significant technology, resource, and expertise gaps between in-house capabilities and what is now required for an “All IP” network like LTE. Continuous Computing’s Solutions & Services team can help bridge these gaps and empower NEPs to focus valuable in-house resources on their unique product differentiation.

“Network equipment providers are under substantial pressure to deliver increasingly advanced systems with higher capacities and sophistication, yet they are facing severe budget cuts,” said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst, Broadband and Video, Infonetics Research.” By raising the ceiling on what has traditionally been offered to NEPs – through a ‘top-down’ system architecture mindset and much tighter levels of integration – Continuous Computing is enabling NEPs to cut down development time significantly and still bring differentiated products to market faster and with higher ROI.”

As the only company with an in-house Trillium software team complementing a seasoned group of telecom platform and system integration experts, Continuous Computing is differentiating Solutions & Services in terms of tight integration of applications, management, middleware, and platforms to yield entire carrier-class systems. The creation of the new business practice reflects the company’s dedication to equipping NEPs via custom-crafted network element functionality which is fully integrated, tested, and supported by Continuous Computing. Not only does this approach help expedite product delivery, it is also simpler and more cost-effective to NEPs than multi-vendor COTS integration projects due to streamlined supply chains and the virtue of having a single point of contact for entire application-level infrastructure development efforts.

“Trillium software expertise and system-level integration are the difference. We created the Solutions & Services practice in response to strong customer demand for higher levels of integration and customization” said Jim Ritchie, senior vice president of corporate development and services at Continuous Computing and the executive responsible for the new focus. “We listened to the market and have assembled a strategic team of solutions experts to design, implement, test, deliver, and support application-level systems tailored to unique customer requirements. With Solutions & Services, the ‘make vs. buy’ decision is no longer just about COTS components; now we offer entire standards-based system solutions.”
