Comprehensive set of Trillium protocols, ATCA systems, DPI software, and expert professional services are designed to help network equipment providers bring LTE infrastructure to market more quickly
SAN DIEGO – September 15, 2008 - Continuous Computing, the only company deploying uniquely architected systems comprised of telecom platforms and Trillium software, today announced the market’s first comprehensive set of products that address the 3rd Generation Partnership Project’s (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless standard. Continuous Computing is the first systems vendor to introduce an end-to-end offering that spans the entire range of LTE network infrastructure ranging from the Home eNodeB to the Evolved Packet Core (EPC). This is a major step forward for the industry given that many leading network operators have already declared their support for the LTE standard, including AT&T, KDDI, NTT DoCoMo, PCS Metro, T-Mobile, and Vodafone, among others.
LTE, sometimes referred to as “4G Wireless”, is rapidly becoming the Next Generation Mobile Network (NGMN) of choice. Promising end-users the same experience as traditional wireline connections, LTE is the roadmap to unprecedented mobile broadband data rates of 100Mbps downlink and 50Mpbs uplink, simultaneous voice and data sessions, and low round-trip latency to support real-time applications like online gaming and mobile TV. In comparison, today’s 3G networks can achieve peak data rates of 14Mbps with High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) but only in very select areas of coverage, and 3G voice and data sessions are mutually exclusive.
“LTE will usher in a new generation of bandwidth-intensive mobile applications and services that require solutions that guarantee a secure and high quality user experience,” said Keith Nissen, senior analyst at In-Stat. “Continuous Computing’s new LTE product suite will be an essential element of the next-generation, All-IP mobile network.”
Consisting of a complete portfolio of Trillium protocols, ATCA platforms, Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) software, and expert professional services, the Continuous Computing LTE product offering will deliver solutions for:
- LTE Femtocells, also known as Home eNodeBs or home base stations
- Macro / Pico base stations, also known as eNodeBs or macro / pico cell sites
- Evolved Packet Core (EPC), comprised of such elements as Mobility Management Entity (MME), Serving Gateway (SGW), Evolved Packet Data Gateway (EPDG), etc.
- Fixed and Mobile DPI, which enables tiered service delivery and traffic shaping as well as network security for applications such as Intrusion Detection / Prevention (IDS/IPS) and Denial of Service
Trillium LTE protocol software – including Diameter, S1-AP, eGTP, GTP, MAC, PDCP, RLC, RRC, and X2-AP – supports LTE Femtocells, macro/pico LTE base stations, and each of the network elements within the EPC. All Trillium LTE protocols are compliant with the latest 3GPP-defined LTE specifications, are multi-threaded for optimized performance on multi-core / multi-threaded processors, and include reference applications for relevant LTE interfaces (e.g., LTE-Uu, S1, S5, S6, S7, S10, X2, etc.). The company also builds upon its industry-leading Trillium 3G Femtocell portfolio to deliver Trillium LTE Femtocell software that addresses the constraints and special requirements of home base station equipment, which is particularly important for network equipment providers targeting rapid deployment of new infrastructure for near-term LTE trials.
“In the 3G era, voice and data are being delivered through separate networks, but with LTE, voice, video, and data will finally be carried over the same IP-based core network – the ‘All-IP’ network – to offer true convergence and much higher levels of performance, service integration, and customer satisfaction,” said Mike Dagenais, president and chief executive officer of Continuous Computing. “Continuous Computing is the only systems provider that has the protocol expertise, architectural design processes, and wireless deployment experience required to successfully bring together all the necessary LTE ‘ingredients’, including Trillium LTE and Femtocell protocol software, ATCA platforms, DPI software, and expert professional services.”
Trillium LTE protocols, ATCA systems, DPI software, and expert professional services are available now.
