ETSI-compliant IMS Software Optimizes SIP-based Server for NGN Deployments in the Global Market

SAN DIEGO & STOCKHOLM – September 10, 2007 – Continuous Computing , global provider of integrated systems and services that enable telecom equipment manufacturers to rapidly deploy Next Generation Networks (NGN), and Teligent, a global supplier of value-added services to telecommunications carriers , today announced that Teligent has selected Continuous Computing ‘s Trillium Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) protocol software for its Teligent Application Server. Trillium SCTP is an add-on to Trillium Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which has been a key component of the Teligent Application Server for the past two years. This customer win further validates Continuous Computing ‘s Trillium “NGN-Ready” product line as the ideal choice for Voice over IP (VoIP) and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network equipment.

Interoperability-proven and pre-integrated with Trillium SIP, the Trillium SCTP solution was instrumental in helping Teligent achieve its product goals. The upgrades to Trillium SCTP provide a foundation for future NGN applications and enable Teligent to meet the signaling requirements of the Teligent Application Server. By providing SIP services over SCTP transport, the Teligent Application Server is able to support key transport layer requirements in NGN deployments, including multi-homing, message-based delivery, data transmission path selection, and secure and reliable transport. The pre-integrated Trillium SIP and SCTP products have provided Teligent with the fastest time-to-market without compromising on global specification compliance for these key differentiating Teligent Application Server features.

“Continuous Computing’s Trillium SCTP was the clear choice due to the integrated support of SCTP with SIP as well as the company’s strong NGN expertise,” said Johan Lindskog, vice president for the Teligent Application Server platform business unit. “Compliance with industry standards and interoperability are very important to us, and Continuous Computing has a respectable track record of meeting those requirements.”

The Teligent Application Server is built on the patented Teligent P90/E platform, which provides a state-of-the-art environment for new and existing services, and is currently deployed in more than 200 systems around the globe. The Teligent Application Server, which supports IMS and NGN networks, features a series of off-the-shelf services including Mobile IP Centrex, Convergent IN Services, Mass Calling/Televoting System, Service Delivery and Charging, Next Generation Messaging, and Softswitch applications. The standards-based, open architecture utilizes non-proprietary hardware and software resources, while combining outstanding cost efficiency and scalability. The platform provides flexibility, a wide availability of resources, high-fault tolerance, and great scalability, thereby addressing the telecommunications market’s demands for lower costs and seamless integration of services over different types of networks.

“In an industry evolving as quickly as telecommunications, it’s important to stay competitive and in the forefront,” said Mike Dagenais, chief executive officer of Continuous Computing. “In this vein, ETSI and IETF compliance are essential to meeting our customers’ needs as they develop networks for the global market. In addition to demonstrating product leadership, Continuous Computing’s Trillium Professional Services team worked closely with Teligent to build the development environment, as well as develop customized changes in the software that allowed for enhancements to the stack management.”

Continuous Computing’s Trillium SCTP software recently underwent a series of performance optimization and specification compliance upgrades. Specifically, Trillium SCTP has been successfully tested for compliance with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) specifications at the 9th SCTP Interoperability event in Kyoto , Japan on August 19-25, 2007. As a result, the enhanced Trillium SCTP software now offers additional support for European networks, a response to the increasing demand for ETSI compliance within the past several months. The SCTP transport layer protocol provides secure and reliable transport services – a “must” to fulfill the promise of NGN applications such as multimedia messaging – and is required by multiple global standards including IMS, ETSI Telecoms & Internet converged Services & Protocols for Advanced Networks ( TISPAN ), and ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
