Trillium Selected by Brooktrout Technology for Development of Complete Voice-over-IP Integrated Platform Solutions
Integrating Trillium's Carrier-Grade Software with Brooktrouts Open-System Hardware will Shorten Development Cycles for IP Telephony Equipment Manufacturers
LOS ANGELES AND ATLANTA - October 16, 2001 - Trillium Digital Systems, Inc., an Intel company and leading provider of communications software solutions, unveiled at Fall VON 2001 a new Voice-over-IP design win with Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading provider of innovative hardware and software platforms that enable applications for the New Network. Trillium has licensed several of its VoIP software products to Brooktrout so they can provide integrated hardware and software solutions for next generation IP telephony equipment manufacturers.
Aided by the onsite engineering support from the Trillium Quick!Start program, Trillium's scalable and interoperable Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP and MEGACO/H.248) and H.323 IP telephony software will be seamlessly integrated with Brooktrouts TRxStream series of open standards media resource boards. The high performing VoIP software products, whose benefits are fully realized through Quick!Starts one-stop approach in integrating and customizing solutions, enable Brooktrout to offer complete telco-grade voice over packet products that accelerate deployment and reduce time-to-market for next generation communications equipment.
By integrating Trillium's MGCP, MEGACO/H.248 and H.323 software products, Brooktrout will provide complete development platforms for network elements such as SoftSwitch media gateways, VoIP media gateways and wireless to IP gateways. These network infrastructure elements are critical in enabling the convergence of voice, data and other media communications. Brooktrouts board level hardware, pre-integrated with Trillium's enabling VoIP software, presents communications equipment manufacturers with an optimized building block solution strategy and the opportunity to quickly build highly scalable and reliable network elements.
"Breadth of engineering support services, protocol support, interoperability, and industry reputation were key factors in Brooktrout's selection of Trillium as a provider of Voice-over-IP software protocol stacks," said Jeff Sieloff, vice president of Product Management, New Public Networks Group at Brooktrout Technology.Ê"As we continue to develop state-of-the-art products for next generation networks, Brooktrouts aggressive strategy to address the needs of our customers is further facilitated by our relationship with Trillium and its committed IP telephony roadmap."
Trillium's VoIP portfolio of products includes H.323, MGCP, MEGACO/H.248, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Signaling Transport (SIGTRAN) and Real Time Protocol/Real Time Control Protocol (RTP/RTCP). The H.323 IP telephony software solution is currently being used in a variety of equipment ranging from Internet telephones to carrier-grade solutions. This high-performance software makes it possible for equipment manufacturers to design carrier-class systems that exceed the performance, capacity and scalability requirements of next generation networks, while its low-memory requirements allow OEMs to scale the same code base down to thin IP clients.
MGCP and MEGACO/H.248 are IETF and joint IETF-ITU defined communications device control protocols that are being increasingly deployed in the decomposed, packet based networks. These protocols are used in a range of Internet telephony and broadband access products, including trunking gateways, Voice-over-ATM gateways, enterprise gateways, IP telephony gateways and residential gateways, such as set-top boxes, xDSL devices and other cable-IP telephony equipment. Trillium's Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP and MEGACO/H.248) IP telephony software solutions are employed by numerous communications equipment manufacturers around the globe.
"The heightened need for integrated, high performing and scalable IP telephony solutions has positioned Trillium to rapidly serve the burgeoning carrier-grade market segment with its breadth of solutions and proven expertise," said Frank Morese, vice president of marketing for Trillium Digital Systems, Inc.Ê"Trillium's interoperable, high performing product offerings along with its recognized expertise and engineering support for accelerating time-to-market will provide Brooktrout with the advantage necessary for developing best-in-class telco-grade VoIP packet products to help customers continuously meet the changing needs of the converged network."
