Trillium Announces Successful MGCP Software Interoperability Testing at International SoftSwitch Consortium-Sponsored Event

Interoperability Key to Deployment of Next-Generation IP Telephony Equipment in Carrier-Class Networks

BEIJING - May 22, 2001 - At the China Voice Over IP 2001 conference here today, Trillium Digital Systems, Inc., an Intel company and leading provider of communications software solutions, announced that its carrier-class, Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) software stack successfully completed the MGCP interoperability test sponsored by the International SoftSwitch Consortium. This interoperability test attracted leading telecommunications hardware, software and service providers ranging from protocol stack vendors to complete system solution enablers.

Trillium successfully tested its Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) defined RFC 2705-based MGCP portable software solution for both Media Gateways and Media Gateway Controller stacks against other participant vendor implementations. Trillium's MGCP stack, which have been shipping since February of last year, complements its existing offering of award-winning Internet Protocol (IP) telephony software solutions including H.323, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Media Gateway Control Protocol (MEGACO/H.248), and SS7-over-IP (SIGTRAN) and helps address the time-to-market needs of architects in the next-generation converged communications infrastructure market segment. MGCP is an IETF-defined communications device control protocol that allows the separation of gateway signaling and media transmission in order to provide flexibility and cost-effective deployment of scalable, high-performance solutions.

MGCP has gained widespread industry acceptance as the device control protocol for evolving IP-based equipment and is used in a range of Internet telephony and broadband access products, including trunking gateways, Voice-over-ATM gateways, enterprise gateways, IP telephony gateways and residential gateways, such as set-top boxes, xDSL devices and other cable-IP telephony equipment. "By actively participating in industry recognized interoperability events, we are able to promote and provide solutions that conform to the stringent requirements necessary to achieve seamless network interoperability on deployment," said Frank Morese, vice president of marketing, Trillium Digital Systems. "Participation in this MGCP event follows our successful participation in the second MEGACO/H.248 interoperability event earlier this year." For more information about the MGCP interoperability test, visit the International SoftSwitch Consortium Website at www.softswitch.org or the University of New Hampshire Website at mgcp.iol.unh.edu.

Continuous Computing acquired the portable software business of Trillium Digital Systems from Intel Corporation in February 2003.
