Trillium Offers Industry's First Proxy Interface for Classical IP and PPPoA Protocols

Software Upgrade to Popular PLOA Product Empowers Telecom Hardware with Fast Direct Data Switching and Forwarding Capabilities for Internet and ATM Protocols

LOS ANGELES AND SANTA CLARA - January 15, 2001 - Trillium Digital Systems, Inc., an Intel company and leading provider of communications software solutions, announced the availability of the telecommunications industry's first proxy interface support for Classical IP (CIP) and PPP-over-ATM (PPPoA) application protocol modules in its Protocol Layers over ATM (PLOA) software product. With the proxy interface upgrade, Trillium's PLOA can critically boost hardware efficiency by enabling direct switching and forwarding of data between the IP and ATM protocols without the intervention of extra software application layers that consume processor cycles and impede high speed data forwarding.

Trillium's PLOA Proxy Interface provides hardware equipment with an interface for seamless downloading and updating of IP forwarding information. Hardware such as multi-service ATM switches, edge routers, and Integrated Access Devices (IADs) can thus increase the speed of forwarding data while dramatically improving and scaling system performance.

"Trillium is dedicated to offering equipment manufacturers high-performance and scalable solutions," said Rich Cahalan, president of Trillium Digital Systems, Inc. "The Proxy Interface in PLOA is one more example of our commitment to help equipment manufacturers with better and faster ways to deploy solutions needed for the converged network infrastructure." Trillium's PLOA software is currently available as an off-the-shelf software product. The proxy interface functionality upgrade is available as part of the basic Classical IP (CIP) and PPP-over-ATM (PPPoA) module in Trillium's PLOA software at no additional cost.

Continuous Computing acquired the portable software business of Trillium Digital Systems from Intel Corporation in February 2003.
