Trillium's H.323 Software Selected by NEC to Develop Internet Phones

Software's High Performance and Small Code Size are Key Elements for Deployment of Cost-Effective Solutions

LOS ANGELES - January 03, 2001 - Trillium Digital Systems, Inc., an Intel company and leading provider of communications software solutions, will provide its high performing H.323 IP telephony software solution to NEC Corporation for the development of Internet phones (IPterm 10 for IP Telephony System / TCOLLABO. IPterm10 and TCOLLABO are NEC's registered trademarks.)

OEMs such as NEC are using the increasingly important IP phones to address network convergence. Trillium's H.323 solution, with its high performance and small code size advantages, reduces the processor and memory requirements for an IP phone while enhancing competitiveness in the production of cost-effective Internet telephony solutions.

Trillium's H.323 IP telephony software solution is widely used in advanced communications equipment ranging from Internet telephones to carrier-grade solutions. It conforms to the latest Version 3 support and consists of H.225 RAS, H.225 Call Signaling, H.245 Control Signaling, H.450 Supplementary Services, ASN.1 Encoder/Decoder - PER, TCP/UDP Convergence and RTP/RTCP source code software products. Trillium's H.323 is built on TAPA (Trillium Advanced Portability Architecture), which allows the seamless incorporation of all other high-quality Trillium solutions, without significant changes to the design, implementation and testing approaches.

"Trillium's agreement with NEC further enhances our presence in the Asia-Pacific region as a premier global provider of communications software solutions," said Rich Cahalan, president and COO of Trillium Digital Systems, Inc. "We are committed to growing our business relationships in the region and offering next-generation, cutting-edge communications software technologies to current and future Asia-Pacific technology leaders."

The selection of Trillium's H.323 will help position NEC in the emerging Internet telephony market. Utilizing Trillium's H.323 stack enables NEC to lower production costs and produce high-quality, cutting-edge Internet-based products. "This provides NEC, which is a main player in the PBX market, with the competitive edge for penetrating the fast-growing Internet telephony market with a high-quality product at an attractive price point," said Yamamoto Masahiko, General Manager of the Business Networks Division of NEC Corporation. "The factors differentiating Trillium's H.323 IP telephony software from other solutions available in the market include its high performance and low-memory requirements per call."

NEC's deployment of Trillium's H.323 software will be facilitated by expert customer support from Trillium's Japan regional office. This regional office, along with a similar one in China, was established earlier this year to strengthen Trillium's existing presence in the Asia-Pacific region during the initial build-out phase of the next-generation communications infrastructure in that region. Trillium is poised to quickly address the time-to-market requirements of local and international communications equipment manufacturers by providing communications software solutions and support that accelerate the deployment of wireless, Internet and broadband network equipment.
