Trillium Announces Telecom Industry's First Distributed Fault-Tolerant / High-Availability Software Solution

Distribution of Traffic Load Across Multiple Processors will Enhance Equipment Performance and Scalability

LOS ANGELES - November 03, 2000 - Trillium Digital Systems, an Intel company and leading provider of communications software solutions, announced the availability of the telecommunication industry's first Distributed Fault-Tolerant/High-Availability (DFT/HA) software solution to enhance the performance and scalability of communications networks. The DFT/HA software, coupled with Trillium's broad suite of communications software solutions, will empower communication equipment manufacturers to build products meeting today's stringent carrier-grade telecommunications requirements, for the next-generation convergence infrastructure.

Trillium's product architecture inherently supports distribution of protocol layers in a stack, across processors in a single system or multiple systems. The DFT/HA software solution layers on the base architecture and enables high performance and scalability in a system by allowing distribution, or spreading, of an individual protocol layer across multiple processors and providing fault-tolerance support. The solution distributes the load across multiple processors enabling incremental scaling of the system with the load. It also provides distribution of the active and standby functionality across multiple processors to enhance processor utilization and system availability. In contrast, typical high-availability systems employ an active-standby system configuration (one active platform and one standby platform) to achieve fault tolerance. Currently available with Trillium's SS7 software solution, DFT/HA support will be extended to encompass Trillium's high-performance solutions for Voice Over IP (VoIP) and Wireless technologies.

"System scalability and reliability are required for the success of next-generation networks. Trillium's DFT/HA software solution solves this business problem and offers our customers unmatched performance, scalability and availability," said Frank Morese, vice president of marketing for Trillium Digital Systems, Inc. "With this patent-pending innovation, Trillium has once again raised the bar for meeting the market demands for high-performance and high-availability software solutions." The DFT/HA software solution is built on Trillium's Fault Tolerant/High-Availability architecture, a widely deployed framework. The DFT/HA solution allows the co-existence of both distributed and non-distributed software layers within a protocol stack. Equipment manufacturers can use Trillium's DFT/HA architecture with communications software solutions for wireline, wireless, VoIP, and broadband network equipment, including network elements such as SSP, STP, SCP, IP, SG, MGC, MSC, SGSN, GGSN, and 3G RNC.

Continuous Computing acquired the portable software business of Trillium Digital Systems from Intel Corporation in February 2003.
