Lara Technology Selects Trillium Software Solutions For Advanced SS7-to-IP Integrated VoIP Switch Products

Trillium's proven SS7 and industry-leading H.323 Software Solutions Enable Lara's Carrier-grade VoIP Switch Featuring Seamless IP-to-PSTN Interoperability

LOS ANGELES - September 13, 1999 - Trillium Digital Systems, Inc., the leading provider of communications software solutions, announces today that Lara Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of systems solutions for the converging networking and telecommunications markets, has selected Trillium's H.323, SS7 and ISDN software solutions for the development of the industry's most advanced SS7-to-IP integrated VoIP switching solution for next-generation carriers.

Lara Technology is integrating Trillium's high-performance H.323 software solution and Trillium's industry-leading SS7 and ISDN software solutions into its Unified Services Exchange (USX1000TM) product, the first carrier-grade VoIP switch to fully enable the convergence of telephony over IP networks. The Lara USX1000 offers a high-density Class 5 or Class 4 carrier switch for the emerging CLEC and next-generation service provider. Lara's MediaExpress technology, a patent-pending technology, is the primary enabler of Lara's Unified Services Exchange product and enables the most cost-effective, non-proprietary and lowest-latency transport of real-time interactive voice and video over IP networks.

"We chose Trillium solutions over competing products because of Trillium's proven leadership in interoperability and because the performance and scalability of its H.323 product is far superior to other available offerings," said Raj Saksena, Vice President of Business Development, Lara Technologies, Inc. "No other provider could offer us the breadth of protocols H.323, SS7, and ISDN from a single source."

"Lara is leading the advance in Voice-IP convergence through their proprietary MediaExpress technology. Our high-performance software solutions will get them to market quickly with the throughput and scaleability they need to be successful," said Jeff Lawrence, president and CEO, Trillium Digital System, Inc. "Trillium solutions address the complexities of interworking between IP networks and the PSTN. We are the only communications software solutions provider who can offer H.323, ATM, SS7, ISDN, using a consistent architecture. Lara finds strategic value in outsourcing this technology and we think many others will as well."

"Trillium's H.323 stack, with its small footprint, is enabling our low latency MediaExpress solution. The low latency is critical for seamless interoperability between the PSTN and IP networks, enabling a new class of revenue-generating IP services and an increased competitive advantage for next-generation service providers," said Ajit Medhekar, president and CEO, Lara Technology, Inc.

Trillium is currently supplying the industry's highest performing H.323 software solution with a code size that is as much as five times smaller than existing solutions and performance that allows more than 700 call setups and teardowns per second -- up to 10 times faster than any other available solution. Trillium's H.323 protocol software solution for IP Telephony, consisting of H.225 RAS, H.225 Call Signaling, H.245 Control Signaling, ASN.1 Encoder/Decoder - PER, RTP / RTCP and TCP/UDP Convergence source code software products, is available for order now. Trillium has licensed its proven SS7 software solutions to over 100 companies for use in a wide range of telephony, wireless and Internet gateway products. To further assist equipment suppliers, Trillium's Professional Services organization can integrate and customize Trillium's software solutions into new products or assist in the migration from first-generation solutions to Trillium's higher performance and flexible next-generation solutions.

Lara's carrier-grade Unified Services Exchange (USX1000TM) product, incorporating Trillium's software solutions, will be available in the first quarter of 2000.
