Trillium Announces Fault-Tolerant/High-Availability Source Code Software For Mission-Critical Applications
ATLANTA - June 08, 1998 - Trillium Digital Systems, Inc., a leading provider of communications software solutions, today announces its flexible Fault-Tolerant/High-Availability Software designed to minimize downtime in mission-critical communications applications and services.
Carriers and service providers require high availability in their equipment to provide crucial services. Computer and communications equipment manufacturers must provide them with products that minimize service disruption. For example, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must use systems that are constantly available for a growing number of users in an increasingly competitive market.
Trillium Chief Technology Officer Larisa Chistykov said, "As a leading technology provider of communications software, we recognized the growing need for fault-tolerant/high-availability solutions early on. We believe our flexible software provides an innovative solution to enable systems to manage and recover from failures. We provide our solution as source code to speed time-to-market and address portability, scaleability and flexibility issues."
About Trillium Fault-Tolerant/High Availability Software
Most equipment manufacturers use a dual-processor architecture with active and standby subsystems. Trillium's Fault-Tolerant/High-Availability solution enables the standby subsystem to maintain state information through state updates from the active subsystem. These updates help prevent the loss of valuable information, enabling an orderly switchover procedure from the failed subsystem to the standby subsystem.
Trillium's flexible Fault-Tolerant/High-Availability Software solution provides both Core and Protocol Specific Function (PSF) software products. The Core product manages tasks, such as forced and controlled switchovers of the failed subsystem to the standby subsystem. Each PSF product is specific to a particular protocol layer and updates the internal states of the standby subsystem.
In its first release, available this September, Trillium is providing the Fault-Tolerant/High-Availability Core product and the related PSF products for its Transaction Capabilities Application Part (TCAP) stack protocol layers for Signaling System 7 (SS7). Future releases will include PSF products for other SS7 layers and other protocol layers across its broad range of products, including Integrated Services Digital Networks (ISDN), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and V5.
Continuous Computing acquired the portable software business of Trillium Digital Systems from Intel Corporation in February 2003.
