How to apply trademark symbols

In letters, memos, press releases, white papers, advertising, slides, foils, video, and other multimedia presentations:

In newsletters, magazines, and publications containing multiple articles:

In brochures, annual/quarterly reports, books, technical documentation, and other bound documents:

  • Properly designate (with ®, ™ or SM) all of Continuous Computing's trademarks at the most prominent use (usually a headline) and again only on the first occurrence in copy.
  • In the case of presentation graphics, trademarks should be designated with the proper trademark symbol on each page, slide, and foil.
  • Properly designate (with ®, ™ or SM) all of Continuous Computing's trademarks only on the first occurrence in the Table of Contents, in headlines and only on the first occurrence in copy of every article in which they are used.
  • Properly designate (with ®, ™ or SM) all of Continuous Computing's trademarks only on the first occurrence in the Table of Contents, in headlines, and only on the first occurrence in copy.
In all charts, graphs, figures, tables, sidebars, and in the captions for any of these examples, properly designate Continuous Computing's trademarks (with ®, ™ or SM), as they could be copied or pulled and used independently.

It is recommended that the trademark registration notice, such as the "circle R" or "TM" symbols, should be placed next to the actual trademark. The ® or ™ should be placed adjacent to the actual trademark on labels, packaging and print/web collateral. Both the ® and ™ are always superscript. Although there is no required minimum size for the ® or ™, it is recommended that the symbols remain small and unobtrusive, yet legible.

When to use trademarks for Continuous Computing and third-party companies

  • Trademark acknowledgment is required for the names of products and services, but not for company names.
  • Since overuse of trademark symbols makes text heavy and difficult to read, trademark acknowledgement for Continuous Computing and other-party brands is subject to a "rule of first occurrence" within any given document.
  • Include the symbol (®, ™, or SM for Continuous Computing brands and * for other-party brands) at the most prominent use (usually a headline) and again on the first occurrence in copy.
  • Apply trademarks for Continuous Computing products and/or services (with ®, ™ or SM) and third-party products and/or services (with an *) in all charts, graphs, figures, tables, sidebars, and in the captions for any of these examples, as they could be copied or pulled and used independently.
  • A trademark symbol should follow each use of "Create | Deploy | Converge" as this is a Continuous Computing trademark.
