Continuous Computing Announces Trillium 3G / 4G Wireless Protocol Software Upgrades for High-Speed Packet Access
Software Enhancements Increase Data Rates and Bandwidth for Femtocells and 3G HSPA Networks
SAN DIEGO - January 29, 2008 - Continuous Computing, global provider of integrated systems and services that enable telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) to rapidly deploy Next Generation Networks (NGN), today announced the availability of its upgraded Trillium 3G / 4G Wireless protocol software for comprehensive support of Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) functionality in alignment with 3GPP Release 7 standards. These performance improvements increase the data rates and bandwidth over the air interface in 3G networks, allowing for faster video and data services and improved overall quality of service (QoS).
Trillium 3G / 4G Wireless protocol software from Continuous Computing is optimized to meet the rigorous performance requirements of HSPA services, thereby enabling TEMs to build out Femtocell, 3G, and HSPA networks. HSPA, which consists of both High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), enables carriers and operators to cost-effectively upgrade the data rates and capabilities of their 3G networks in order to roll out new bandwidth-intensive services requiring high data speeds, such as high-quality mobile TV. In addition, the upgraded Trillium 3G / 4G Wireless software accelerates time-to-money while reducing project risk, complexity, and development costs as it is a standards-compliant and interoperability-proven signaling solution.
"We have a long-term history of providing best-in-class Trillium wireless protocol software, ranging from 2G and extending through our sophisticated 4G technologies," said Mike Dagenais, president and chief executive officer at Continuous Computing. "Our recent software enhancements, which augment our extensive Trillium wireless protocol software library and FlexTCA System solutions, demonstrate our commitment to advancing our wireless portfolio and helping TEMs and carriers roll out the networks of the future." Continuous Computing's Trillium 3G / 4G wireless software suite, which consists of key protocols such as Radio Resource Control (RRC), Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP), Radio Link Control (RLC), and Medium Access Control (MAC), is compliant through 3GPP Release 7 specifications and meets the rigorous demands of HSPA services. The Trillium Wireless protocol software family is complemented by Trillium IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and NGN product lines, which are key components in the evolution of wireless networks, and allows Continuous Computing to provide software, services, and systems from the customer premises and access networks all the way through to the core network. The HSPA enhancements to Trillium 3G / 4G Wireless protocol software constitute the first step in an aggressive roadmap for comprehensive 3G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) support.
"In the rapidly evolving Femtocell market, HSPA capabilities are becoming a necessity," said Simon Stanley, analyst at large at Heavy Reading. "Continuous Computing's upgraded wireless software, with HSPA functionality, enables telecom equipment manufacturers to introduce Femtocell solutions to the market quickly and cost effectively."
Continuous Computing is a member of the Femto Forum, a non-profit organization committed to the standardization and adoption of Femtocell technology, as well as a participant in 3GPP activities.
