Continuous Computing Announces cPCI Bladed Compute System
High Performance Compute Capability Designed for IMS and NGN Call Control and Session Management
3GSM WORLD CONGRESS (BARCELONA) AND SAN DIEGO – February 12, 2007 – Continuous Computing, global provider of integrated systems and services that enable telecom equipment manufacturers to rapidly deploy Next Generation Networks (NGN), today announced a new high performance bladed compute system based on the company's venerable Flex21 CompactPCI (cPCI) platform. The new system, targeted for a range of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and NGN applications, features the company's new FlexCompute cPCI-CD2215 and FlexCompute cPCI-CD1215 processing blades that utilize the latest Core 2 Duo L7400 chips from Intel Corporation.
The launch of the NEBS-compliant cPCI bladed compute system is a key milestone in Continuous Computing's long history of shipping cPCI products and illustrates the company's “best total solution” approach to telecom network infrastructure. Continuous Computing has been supplying cPCI system solutions to Tier 1, 2, and 3 telecom equipment manufacturers such as Alcatel and Cisco since 1998. This most recent cPCI system increases performance and service capability while improving density and system capacity, all without the time or expense of rewriting application code.

The deployment of IMS networks to deliver IP-based applications, such as instant messaging and location-based services, is driving the need to provide additional compute capability to address increased control plane and session management loads in wireless and wireline networks. Continuous Computing's high-performance cPCI bladed compute system delivers a scalable solution that allows telecom equipment manufacturers to tailor capacity to specific deployment scenarios, starting small and growing as needed. The ability to double compute capacity within the platform delivers significant cost savings by reducing the cost per session by 50% – 100% while also extending the useful life of the system.

Continuous Computing's cPCI bladed compute system provides a very high capacity computing solution with up to 38 Core 2 Duo dual core compute nodes, each of which is supported by its own local memory and I/O to maximize performance. Operating costs have also been minimized by using low voltage compute nodes which can deliver savings of 30% or higher in terms of power consumption. Dual redundant 1GbE switches are included to provide packet distribution within the platform. The cPCI system is configurable to suit specific network equipment requirements and is delivered as a fully integrated and tested unit. The platform can be packaged with a range of Trillium protocol software stacks extensively used in IMS and NGN, including Trillium SIP, Diameter, SIGTRAN, and MEGACO / H.248.
