Continuous Computing's Trillium SIP Technology Adopted Globally To Power VoIP and 3G Wireless Network Infrastructure

Portugal Telecom, sentitO Networks, and Sumitomo Electric Networks Deploy Products Based on Trillium SIP Stacks

SAN DIEGO, CA - July 20, 2004 - Continuous Computing, the leading provider of high availability Network Service-Ready Platform solutions for telecom equipment manufacturers, today announced additional worldwide adoption and validation of its Trillium Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling stack by leading telecom equipment manufacturers to power their next generation Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and 3G Wireless products.

The VoIP equipment market is forecasted to grow from $1.2B in 2003 to $4.8B in 2007 according to a recently published report by Infonetics Research. At the same time, SIP has evolved from a nascent technology into a popular standard for voice and video services in the wireline network. SIP also has a pivotal role in the rollout of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architectures to bridge 3G Wireless networks to an all-IP backbone. In addition, SIP has helped create exciting opportunities for carriers and telecom equipment manufacturers by enabling a new wave of revenue-generating applications such as Push-To-Talk (PTT), Instant Messaging and Presence Protocol (IMPP), and Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi or ViFi).

"Global demand for SIP remains strong and our customers increasingly depend on us to provide critical building blocks like Trillium SIP protocol stacks for the new modular telecom network," said Neeraj Patel, Continuous Computing product marketing manager. "Continuous Computing is known for offering application-enabling technology at the right price, performance, and feature points as well as delivering a sustaining roadmap to match customers' plans for product evolution."

"Trillium protocol technology is a key success factor which is helping us to accomplish our mission to develop innovative value-added services, products, and applications for the companies of the PT Group and other customers alike," said Artur Calado, member of the board at Portugal Telecom Inovao (PTI). "We are currently embedding the Trillium SIP stack within our next generation IN solution (NGIN), and we can vouch for the good price, performance, and features that it provides. Its stack portability, permanent roadmap availability, and the easy access to Trillium engineering teams are the main reasons behind our decision to implement the Trillium solutions in the design of our multiple products."

"SIP serves as a major focus of our overall product technology, and we are proud adopters of Trillium SIP since it began shipping 3 years ago," said Joachim Hallwachs, vice president of product marketing, sentitO Networks. "Our NEO SIP/SS7 proxy (NSP), a patent pending SS7 signaling proxy and gateway providing seamless signaling and services translation between SIP and SS7/C7 signaling networks, utilizes the Trillium SIP stack. Continuous Computing's commitment to meet our specific requirements and timely delivery of such updates has been most impressive."

"Sumitomo Electric Networks, Inc. (SEN) is at the leading edge of broadband technology and our ADSL modem solutions deployed by a leading Japanese carrier are helping drive local broadband IP telephony deployments," said Shingo Hara, president of SEN. "Our ADSL modems are powered by the Trillium SIP stack and Continuous Computing's extended support and willingness to help during field trials has been extremely impressive. We have been able to meet our accelerated time-to-market needs and deploy with confidence based on their interoperability-tested and proven SIP solution."

The broad variety of products enabled by Trillium SIP technology includes soft phones, ADSL modems, back-to-back (B2B) SIP User Agents (UAs), Call State Control Functions (CSCFs), Softswitches, Multiservice Switching Platforms, and SIP Servers.
