Continuous Computing Updates Trillium Wireless Product Portfolio to 3GPP R5 and R6 specifications
3G Radio and Core Network Solutions Help Drive 3G Adoption
SAN DIEGO, CA - October 07, 2003 - Continuous Computing Corporation (CCPU), the leading provider of communications software solutions, announced today that it has begun shipping Trillium network protocol software solutions complying with the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) latest Release 5 (R5) and Release 6 (R6) specifications. The updated software building blocks are critical components of the Third Generation (3G) network, helping to power the 3G wireless nodes that play an important function in transmission of voice and multi-media traffic across the network.
By providing these critical components as standards-based off-the-shelf solutions, CCPU enables wireless equipment providers to focus on developing innovative applications while maintaining their time-to-market advantage. When new updates are adopted, each cycle either upgrades the capabilities of the existing equipment or defines new protocol and network device specifications.
By providing solutions that conform to the recently defined R5 and R6 specifications, CCPU will serve to further the global adoption of 3G technologies by allowing equipment manufacturers to build next-generation wireless products rapidly and robustly, with market-driven feature sets and capabilities. Ultimately, 3G service providers will deploy the upgraded network infrastructure and roll out new end-user services, such as location services, push-to-talk and other killer applications.

The term 3G is an umbrella term covering a range of wireless network technologies. 3GPP is a collaboration agreement between various telecommunications standards bodies, and are responsible for producing the R5 and R6 specifications. Enabling end-to-end IP Convergence, R5 specifications are a major core network release and include new protocol definitions, while R6 defines IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Part II, which also includes in its scope further updates to R5 work items.
3G includes WCDMA, CDMA2000, UMTS, and EDGE. Examples of wireless nodes defined within the 3G network include SGSN, GGSN, RNC, CGF, MSC, NodeB, HLR, and others.
