Continuous Computing Announces General Availability of Next-Generation Flex21 CompactPCI Platform

CCPU starts shipping Flex21 PICMG 2.16 platform after extensive beta testing trials

ATLANTA, GA - June 02, 2003 - Continuous Computing Corporation (CCPU), a leading provider of highavailability computing solutions for telecom equipment manufacturers, announces general availability of its Flex21 product. The 21-slot Flex21 product brings next -generation reliable management, efficient cooling, and significant power benefits to the field-proven CompactPCI form-factor. Flex21 provides scalability to support up to 19 highperformance blades per chassis. Pricing for the Flex21 carrier-class, high-availability platform starts at around $20,000.

The Flex21 platform combines PICMG 2.16 support at Gigabit speeds with H.110 telephony bus, optional PCI segments, and radial IPMI-based management to offer the flexibility to support a wide range of high-performance, scalable applications. Reliability is maximized with redundant Ethernet, IPMI, and alarm connectivity, as well as redundant management controllers, fan trays, power inputs, and Ethernet switches. With support for Intel, SPARC, and PowerPC single board computers and a wide array of high-density media and I/O options, it provides an ideal platform for deploying key devices such as softswitches, gateways, and OAM&P servers in both the wireline and wireless networks.

Designed from the ground up to maximize the capabilities of the widely deployed CompactPCI form-factor, the high-density Flex21 platform offers dual switches, dual management controllers, and up to 19 multi-purpose node slots in a fully-integrated 19-inch x 13U platform. The innovative power and cooling architecture utilized by the Flex21 platform enables it to support an unprecedented 75 watts of non-shared power per slot, providing support for the higher performance processing and I/O blades of today and tomorrow.

"Flex21 is an exceptional addition to CCPU's telco-grade, high-density platform products and extends our leadership in delivering highly-reliable, easy-to-use technology solutions." said Prasad Kallur, Vice President, Marketing, Continuous Computing Corp. "Integrated with our Trillium communications software and upSuite high-availability middleware, Flex platforms reduce complexity for our customers, allowing them to focus time and resources on developing and deploying feature-rich, revenue-generating applications. The result is faster time-tomarket and more robust solutions."

The Flex21 platform is the first in CCPU's newest product line of Flex application-ready, open-architecture platforms. All Flex platforms feature NEBS level 3, carrier-class design and serviceability, and a wide range of configuration options to support voice-over-packet, wireless infrastructure, intelligent network, and OAM&P applications. By providing consistent power and management architectures as well as sharing common management controllers and application interfaces across all Flex platforms, CCPU allows telecom equipment manufacturers to select the most appropriate form-factor, whether CompactPCI or ATCA, to cost-effectively and quickly bring new, revenue-generating applications to market,

"With our focus on communications, we hear directly from customers about their desires for CompactPCI to support more power per slot, more robust management and scalability." said Greg Kalush, President and CEO of Interphase Corporation. "The CCPU Flex21 platform is designed specifically to meet the wish list of the telecom industry with -48VDC distributed power, next -generation IPMI-based management, and processing density in a standards-based, PICMG 2.16 CompactPCI platform. Interphase and Continuous Computing are working together to ensure that when customers use Interphase I/O products with CCPU Flex platforms and CCPU Trillium protocols, the results are interoperable and performance-optimized communication solutions." The Flex21 platform will be on display at Supercomm from June 3rd to June 5th. Please visit booth 22531 to see a demonstration of the Flex21 configured as an application-ready Home Location Register (HLR) platform. This platform will showcase CCPU SPARCblade single-board computers and Interphase I/O modules running CCPU Trillium Distributed Fault-Tolerant, High-Availability (DFT/HA) communication software and CCPU upSuite highavailability middleware.
