IP Unity and Continuous Computing Announce Enhanced Services With Full Redundancy
Partnership Raises Bar on Reliability for Carrier-Class Enhanced Services
MILPITAS, CA - March 25, 2003 - IP Unity Corp., provider of a carrier-grade services platform for enhanced voice and telephony applications, and Continuous Computing Corporation (CCPU), a leading provider of high-availability network-ready computing solutions for telecom equipment manufacturers, today announced the general availability of a joint solution combining leading-edge communications services with a total redundancy solution, ideal for service provider central office locations. IP Unity utilizes the redundancy on its application servers to provide automatic failure detection and fail-over service for all of its hardware and software solutions, and provides the service as an option to its customers. "Our partnership with Continuous Computing is based on our extensive use of their high-availability middleware solution, upBeat," said Dave Rodgers, IP Unity's senior voice president of engineering. "We use the software on our application servers because upBeat is an extremely reliable out-of-box redundancy solution for applications, software, hardware and networks. Combined with our carrier-grade Harmony6000 enhanced services platform and applications portfolio, we can offer a complete and reliable package to service providers and enterprises in the US and abroad."
By integrating the upBeat redundancy solution into its core offerings, IP Unity is able to provide enterprises and carriers with new communications services such as voice mail, unified messaging, auto attendant, audio/web conferencing, as well as speech recognition, with an added level of reliability and redundancy. The solution is ideal for server clustering, and has been designed to function in "Active/Active Mode," a configuration with multiple backup servers actively functioning at the same time. Active/Active Mode with upBeat results in no downtime in case of an application server or network disruption, because service management and storage are instantly and automatically transferred to an already functioning, yet unaffected server. The solution is suited for high-density platforms, such as the Harmony6000, that operate in both legacy and IP-based networks, and is the most reliable method to protect enterprise and carrier-level mission critical data, and for disaster recovery. upBeat is a component of Continuous Computing's upSuite fa mily of high-availability middleware products, which provides a redundancy framework enabling real-time data replication and sub-second application failover initiation.
"IP Unity is the clear leader in designing and deploying enhanced telecom services for enterprises and carriers," said PJ Go, President, Continuous Computing Corporation. "Our combined solution lets enterprises and service providers work with these innovative communications services in a tangible way, without having to worry about network, hardware or software disruptions. Our redundancy offering is an excellent addition to IP Unity's carrier-class enhanced services solution and applications portfolio." IP Unity's Harmony6000 is the telecommunications industry's leading enhanced services platform for managing and processing multiple applications on a single server. The Harmony6000 platform and applications have been deployed around the globe, over ATM, TDM, and VoIP networks.
