Fixed and mobile broadband networks are straining from the rapid explosion of bandwidth-intensive applications compounded by the rapid ramp up of data-driven devices such as smart phones and 3G wireless data cards. With the introduction of LTE the strain is only destined to get worse and pre-integrated 200Gbps ATCA deep packet inspection (DPI) platform solutions are needed to cope with this next phase of expansion.
The FlexTCA 200Gbps DPI Platform is a pre-integrated 200Gbps ATCA platform that helps network equipment providers deliver the highest performance solutions for tomorrow’s packet processing network infrastructure needs — Policy Enforcement and Wireless Security.
By combining the latest multi-core packet processors, new 40G Ethernet switch devices, high capacity uplinks such as 40GbE and 100GbE and the new PICMG3.1 option 9 extension for 40G backplanes (aka 10G Kr), FlexTCA 200Gbps DPI Platform can dramatically lower cost/bit and increase system density. In fact, the FlexTCA 200Gbps DPI Platform delivers up to 4 times the processing density of previous generation ATCA offerings at a price per bit savings of up to 75 percent.
Central to the FlexTCA 200Gbps DPI Platform is the new FlexCore ATCA-FM81 hub switch which delivers unprecedented levels of uplink capacity and 40G connectivity to each slot in the ATCA platform. Complementing this raw throughput are advanced capabilities to manage congestion, thereby increasing link utilization levels before packet loss occurs, and new line rate packet processing capabilities to parse packets, manipulate MPLS headers and perform user-based load balancing which is particularly important for DPI applications.
The FlexTCA 200Gbps DPI Platform delivers higher processing performance with new packet processing blades. The first of these being launched is the FlexPacket ATCA-PP81 which combines two NetLogic XLP832 multi-core MIPS processors. PP81 provides greater than 3X performance as compared to the existing FlexPacket ATCA-PP50, which is currently recognized as the highest performance blade for applications such DPI traffic shaping and policy enforcement. The PP81 continues the 40G-enabled backplane connectivity and high bandwidth external I/O to ensure systems scale from the 100Gbps level today to beyond 300Gbps in the near future.
